How We Can Help

We work with individuals, families, and corporate clients across a range of immigration matters — from work permits and residency applications to citizenship by descent and cross-border coordination with US counsel.

Work permit consultation at a Jamaican law firm

Work Permits

Employment & Relocation

Foreign nationals seeking employment in Jamaica are generally required to obtain a work permit before commencing work. The application process involves submissions to the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, and requirements vary depending on the role, the applicant's qualifications, and the employer's circumstances.

We assist employers and prospective employees with the preparation and submission of work permit applications, renewals, and exemption requests, ensuring that all supporting documentation meets the applicable requirements.

Jamaica coastline for permanent residency applicants

Permanent Residency

Long-Term Settlement

Permanent residency allows foreign nationals to live and work in Jamaica without the need for periodic visa renewals. Eligibility is assessed by the Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency (PICA) on a case-by-case basis, taking into account factors including length of stay, financial independence, character, and ties to the island.

We guide applicants through the documentation and submission process, and liaise with PICA on their behalf to support a smooth application.

Jamaican family citizenship by descent application

Citizenship by Descent

Birthright & Heritage

Persons born outside of Jamaica to at least one Jamaican parent may be entitled to Jamaican citizenship by descent under the Jamaica Constitution and the Jamaica Citizenship Act. This extends to certain second-generation applicants born abroad to a Jamaican citizen who themselves acquired citizenship by descent.

We assist with the preparation and submission of citizenship by descent applications, including gathering the required vital records and liaising with PICA throughout the process. For members of the diaspora, this is often the first step in reconnecting with Jamaica — whether for personal, investment, or estate planning purposes.

Citizenship by marriage naturalisation Jamaica

Citizenship by Marriage

Naturalisation

A foreign national married to a Jamaican citizen may apply for naturalisation after meeting the required period of lawful residence and satisfying the criteria prescribed under the Jamaica Citizenship Act. This includes evidence of a genuine marital relationship, compliance with residency requirements, and a clean immigration history.

We assist with the preparation of naturalisation applications and liaise with PICA throughout the process.

US Immigration — Cross-Border Matters

Jamaica & United States

For clients with immigration needs that touch both Jamaica and the United States, we provide assistance across a range of US immigration matters. Our services include support with immigrant visa petitions, family-based and employment-based preference categories, adjustment of status applications, nonimmigrant visa matters, and waiver applications.

We also assist with dual-status issues, dual citizenship implications, and cross-border family matters, working alongside licensed US immigration counsel where appropriate to provide coordinated advice. Where US proceedings are required, we are positioned to make appropriate referrals while managing the Jamaican dimension of the matter.
